Director, West Lothian Educational Authority, Scotland

What came out of it was a policy, a practical interactive policy, called "Pupil Voice". And, it's very much about the pupils evaluating exactly what happens to them from the moment they walk into school, the environment, the interface with other children, the interface with staff, how they experienced a lesson being taught, whether they understood it, were the worksheets readable, did they find it interesting, did they know what they were going to gain from the lesson when it reached the end of the lesson, were they in control of their own learning, did they have their own targets, and so there's a whole process whereby they are invited to comment on a regular basis.
