The mentor system has been part of our tradition, but the effects were not obvious. The ESR report last year suggested that we strengthen students' learning, and we thought teaching was very important. So we strengthened our mentor system where an experienced teacher is paired with a relatively younger one to engage in an in-depth [professional] dialogue. The procedures are like this: every two cycles, the pair would observe each other teach, and then meet for exchanging their views about the lessons observed. This provides a more structured way of mutual learning. It's true that this system brings additional work to the more experienced teachers, with preparations before the observation and time spent on discussion afterwards, besides the actual tasks of observing and being observed. That's why we use the school's funds to employ additional teachers to create more free periods for mentor teachers.
