3 years ago, when we learned of the coming ESR, the first thing that came to my mind was how to mobilise my staff to take part in this exercise. SSE is a difficult thing to do, because we tend to see our strengths only. The first time I asked the staff to do self-evaluation, I asked them to write down our strengths, and they came up quite easily. But few weaknesses were identified. This was what I realised: in looking at ourselves, we usually find ourselves to be very strong, and have difficulty in finding our weaknesses. It is for this reason that we had run several workshops.
