The school stresses teachers' professional development, so in our early years we encouraged collaborative lesson planning, peer observation, peer evaluation, etc., to enhance teaching effectiveness. For peer observation of lessons, there were few problems at the beginning, and some teachers even invited parents and external visitors to observe their lessons. But a minority of teachers can still be very shy and wary about being observed by outsiders. ESR is in fact an opportunity, and on knowing about it the school adopted a direction of peer collaboration, in line with what the school has been doing with lesson study, so lesson observation is done with similar support. After going through this exercise, the whole teaching staff was ready for observation, and could welcome experts, fellow teachers and parents to the classroom any time, and this helped all teachers to open up.
